In 1996 we moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, from Austin, Texas. We were very lucky and found a home to rent in a nice part of town. Much of Las Cruces looks like a desert town but our neighborhood was lush and green. There was an irrigation ditch from the Rio Grande that ran through the edge and people had access to huge amounts of water. They opened the gates to their yard and would flood it for a short time and the ground would drink it in and be more lush. Here is a picture of our house on the left, and a scene in the town, right. If you look closely, you can see me in the doorway of our home.
You can sort of see the mountains in the background of the town picture. We took a couple trips out into the mountains, to climb them and just to see their beauty. The mountains were called the Organ mountains. I took a few pictures aimed the other direction, in other words, at what we were looking towards. Here is one of them. I love that one branch that looks like a person standing there. If you look closely just a bit to the right of the middle you can see some white sand. That is White Sands, way off in the distance. Most of it is closed to the public.
<< Another view of the trail in the Organ Mountains we hiked on.
A few times we drove through to Alamogordo. On one of the trips we stopped at the mountain pass and took some pictures of my girls and the scenery. My girls are sitting on a rock and if they moved back just about 3 more feet they would fall off the mountain. El Paso is about a half hour's drive from where we lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico. A couple of times I went into Juarez with my husband, taking my daughters along on one of the trips. In this picture on the left you can see a Mariachi band playing for a table. We had them play for us once too. On the right I am sitting with a bottle of soda pop at the same outdoor restaurant just outside the market.
There are a lot of other places in Juarez, besides the market and restaurant but this is where I took most of my pictures. I wish I had taken pictures inside the market place, and the streets, and other places we went inside or ate at. But I didn't.
On the left, a little boy came up and offered to sing for us, like the Mariachis. So we let him sing to my girls. Serena was a bit embarrassed while Anna thought it was cute. On the right, my girls are wearing sombreros that a man put on my girls heads all of a sudden. Then he had a camera and offered to take our picture. It was a relatively reasonable price. I have another page where I have more pictures of Mexico, including a Mexican man kissing me on the cheek after being prompted by my husband.
Choose whatever may interest you. (or go back to whatever page you came from)
I'll include my list of all my "regular" web pages at the top of each page so if you get tired of hearing all about me, you can escape to some place else. But for now, here are some more personal pages...
These are somewhat better looking pages, with more information too.
If you want to go to other pages in this series you can click on any of these. Most of these were made quickly, just to show my "artistry" (or lack of) in photography. Some are just fun pictures to look at. Below this series are many of my better pages, with both photos and stories about the people, places or things they are taken of.
